How to Make an Emergency Plan
Taking into consideration the types of emergencies most likely to affect you (such as fire, earthquake, flood, or severe weather). Ask yourself what you’ll need if you decide to (SIP) Shelter in place or if you need to (Bug Out) evacuate.
Here’s what you should do next:
- Create a communication plan so everyone knows how to get in touch and where to meet if separated. You should have meeting places for; if just your neighbourhood is affected, if your city is affected, and if your province is affect.
- Build an emergency 72 hour kit with essentials like water, food, first aid supplies, medications, important documents, cash and clothing.
- Learn how to shut off utilities (gas, water, electricity) and basic first aid.
- Stay informed by signing up for local emergency alerts and knowing evacuation routes. Make sure you have a transistor radio, so you can get information if the power goes out.
- Practice your plan regularly with everyone involved.
